Dr. Kevin Trench was a brilliant but disillusioned medical student in New York City. One night, he witnessed a costumed figure battling terrorists. The figure was killed, and Trench discovered it was himself, but from the future. The future Trench warned his past self of impending doom.

Horrified and wanting to avert the grim prophecy, Trench stripped the future-self's costume, a self-healing symbiotic suit of alien origin, and assumed the identity of Nightwatch. The costume provided him with superhuman strength, speed, and agility.

Initially, Nightwatch dedicated himself to fighting crime and preventing the events that led to his future self's death. However, the suit's influence and the increasingly morally ambiguous situations he faced pushed him towards darker methods. He became more reclusive and distanced himself from his previous life.

Over time, the Nightwatch symbiote began to exert more control, blurring the lines between hero and anti-hero. He eventually disappeared from the public eye, his fate and the ultimate outcome of his efforts remaining largely unresolved in the Marvel Universe.
